Funded case
SIGMAPro - intelligent maintenance of production equipment
SIGMAPro (Intelligent System for the Management and Maintenance of Production Equipment) is a collaborative research and development project funded by the Veneto Region ROP ERDF 2014-2020, to bring Industry 4.0 IoT into industrial maintenance: equipment data, fault analysis, video analysis, augmented and virtual reality.
Summary
Data, analysis and augmented reality for industrial maintenance.
SIGMAPro, the Intelligent System for the Management and Maintenance of Production Equipment, is a collaborative research and development project funded by the Veneto Region ROP ERDF 2014-2020. Over twelve months the project worked to bring Industry 4.0 IoT into maintenance: collecting data from industrial equipment, recognising faults, identifying equipment and components, guiding and simulating interventions and capturing the best practices of the most experienced maintainers.
Problem
Understand the fault and intervene the right way.
When a piece of production equipment fails, whoever steps in has to work out quickly what the fault is, on which equipment and on which part, and know how to proceed. Much of this knowledge often lives mainly in the experience of the most experienced maintainers.
Approach
Six objectives, from data collection to best practices.
The project set itself six objectives: collect data from industrial equipment through IoT; identify the type of fault with big-data analysis techniques; recognise the equipment and the parts of its motor through video analysis; guide the intervention with augmented-reality content; let technicians simulate maintenance in virtual reality; capture the best practices of the most experienced maintainers.
System
From the equipment to the maintainer.
In the system, the data collected on the equipment feeds the analysis that recognises the type of fault. Video analysis identifies the equipment and the parts of the motor to work on, and the maintainer is guided by augmented-reality content. Virtual reality lets technicians simulate maintenance, and the system captures the best practices of the most experienced maintainers.
Technology
IoT, big data, video analysis, augmented and virtual reality.
SIGMAPro brings together Industry 4.0 technologies: IoT to collect data from industrial equipment, big-data analysis techniques to recognise faults, video analysis to identify equipment and components, augmented reality to assist during the intervention and virtual reality to simulate maintenance.
